Ch 19 (&Ch 13) — Inference About a Population Proportion (Part I)

By

So far,  the only type of hypothesis test that we have learned for one single categorical variable is in Ch 21 while all other chapters (e.g. Ch 17, Ch 18 and Ch 24) are all about one single quantitative variable.

Today we will go back to inferential statistics on one single categorical variable.

Ch 19 is about one single categorical variable, which is the same as that in Ch 21.  Yet, the two chapters are different:

In Ch 21, we hypothesize more than one population proportions in the null hypothesis while in Ch 19, we hypothesize only one population proportion in the null hypothesis.

Before we start Ch 19, we need to build our foundation about sample proportions.  So we go back to Ch 13 first (the latter half of Ch 13 which we skipped earlier).
